Gromk on Base - scale comparison for a friend of mine

Gromk, the Dwarf Wizard sculpt

 I´m in the middle of a funny campaign of D&D 4th Edition. As an old school gamer, I was very intriged by the opportunity of playing with a dwarf wizard (in previous editions of D&D that i´ve played, the wizards were a forbidden class for dwarves). Of course I had to try this character so Gromk Ûr Garshduum was born. He is an old grumpy dwarven wizard who constantly annoyes the group elf rogue with comments of how an elf is useless when you need something well done and take very seriously the job of questioning the male elf sexuality (The elf rogue is played by a good friend of mine and we have a ball roleplaying the old grudge of dwarves and elves). Gromk likes to brag about how evil and blasé he is but actually he is a soft hearted mage who help the weak and opressed with his growing magic powers. Anyway, I had no miniature to represent Gromk in a properly way and I was using the dwarven cleric from the Castle Ravenloft Boardgame so I thought it was a good idea to sculpt my very own dwarven mage.

 Estou no meio de uma engraçada campanha de D&D 4a edição. Como jogador da velha guarda, eu estava intrigado com a chance de jogar com um anão mago (em edições anteriores do D&D que joguei, a classe de mago era proibida para anões). É claro que eu tinha que tentar este personagem e assim nasceu Gromk Ûr Garshduum. Ele é um anão mago mal humorado que constantemente enche o saco do elfo ladino do grupo com comentários sobre como um elfo é inútil quando se precisa de um bom trabalho feito e leva bem a sério o trabalho de questionar a sexualidade do elfo (o ladino é o personagem de um grande amigo meu e nós rimos pra caramba no roleplay da antiga rivalidade entre anões e elfos). Gromk gosta de gabar de ser mau e indiferente mas na verdade ele é um mago de coração mole que ajuda os fracos e oprimidos com seus crescentes poderes mágicos. De qualquer forma, eu não tinha uma miniatura para representar Gromk adequadamente e eu estava usando o anão clérico que vem na caixa do jogo de tabuleito Castle of Ravenloft então pensei que seria legal esculpir meu próprio anão mago.

     I gave up on waiting the miniature bases ordered at FRPGAMES thanks to the damn strike on Brazillian customs. I don´t argue about the rightness of their strike but it bothered me a lot so i made one base from plumber putty. Since I had to dedicate more time at this project I tried the gore technique with UHU glue that I found somewhere on the net. Problem is that I couldn´t find UHU glue in Brazil and I´m very tired at importing everything for my hobby so I tried every kind of glue I could find here. A couple of days ago I used some polyestirene glue and EUREKA! Excelent results! This technique is now part of my hobby arsenal and as soon as I manage to dominate this technique I´ll post a tutorial. Now enough of Silent Hill let´s start other projects! I´m thinking of some dungeons...

    Realmente desisti de esperar as bases que encomendei na FRPGAMES graças à maledeta greve da receita federal. Não quero entrar no mérito da questão se a greve é justa ou não mas que me deixou brabo isso deixou. Resolvi então fazer uma de durepoxi. Aproveitei que tive que me dedicar um pouco mais a essa miniatura e acabei tentando uma técnica de fazer tripas ensaguentadas que achei na net. misturando uma cola chamada UHU e tinta é possível fazer entranhas e sangue coagulado bem reais. O problema é que não tem essa cola UHU no Brasil e como já estou de saco cheio de ter que importar quase tudo que uso nesse hobby tenho tentado utilizar outros tipos de cola. Tentei então com cola de isopor e EUREKA! Ficou excelente. Essa técnica vai entrar no meu repertório e assim que eu tiver mais domínio eu posto um tutorial. Agora chega de Silent Hill e simbora com outros projetos! Estou com dungeons na cabeça...

15mm Gladiator - Hoplomachus

 Não morri ainda não... Pai de três e a caçula com 6 meses somente agora está me dando um tempo pro hobby. Acabei de ler o "Red Sand Blue Sky" da 2 Hour Wargames e estou louco pra começar a jogar. Espero em breve estar postando um resumo de batalha no Blog. Sua regra parece ser bem legal pra jogo solo ou contra amigos. Como eu não tenho nenhuma miniatura de gladiador eu resolvi começar a esculpir alguns em 15mm para ser mais rápido. Ainda não está uma "coca-cola" mas acho que melhorei bastante principalmente porque com escala de 1/100 é fróida esculpir qualquer tipo de detalhe. Acho que ficou um hoplomacus legal. Que vocês acharam?

 No, I´m not dead yet... Father of three with a young daughter of six months only now i can spare some time for hobbies. I just read the "Red Sand Blue Sky" from the 2 Hour Wargames and I'm dying to just start playing. I hope I can soon be posting a battrep. The rules seems to be pretty cool to play solo or against friends. As I have no miniature gladiator I decided to start sculpt some in 15mm. It is not a "Great" mini but I think I improved a lot especially because with scale 1/100 is so hard to sculpt any kind of details. I believe It nicely depicts a hoplomachus. What do you think?

Jonny Quest Pulp Skirmish

 Still busy to post the Battrep of ATZ. It was a fun fast game but I´ll not spoil the Battle Report.
Meanwhile I have stumble on a forum discussing what miniatures to use in a pulp game based on the cartoon "Jonny Quest". For those who don´t know what I´m talking about, Jonny Quest was THE GREATEST pulp toon that ever existed (IMO).

 My friend, Spiffy Leek, suggested the use of Bob Murch's minis and that tip makes perfect sense since his minis come with pulp skirmish rules from Pulp Figures. Their miniatures are great so as the rules (wich are free in condensed pdf) but I could not find one of the greatest villain of Jonny Quest in their gallery:

So I thought I could try to make a miniature of this quintessential villain and here it is in his inital sculpting.

I know that it don´t seem to be much but I think that when I paint it it will be very cool to game with in a Jonny Quest pulp skirmish. Ha! I love when I can sculpt my own mini because even if they are not very good looking they have a unique "soul" that maybe only I can see.
